We all love that post massage ’cloud nine feeling’. Follow these top tips and continue to reap the benefits long after your treatment has finished.
Avoid any strenuous activity:
After a massage your muscles and connective tissues are much softer. Allow at least 24hrs before doing any strenuous activity.
I.e., Running, Zumba, Weight Lifting, Pilates, to avoid muscles strain.
Lucky for you you’re already home. So, pick a comfy spot on the sofa and sink into your favourite book/ film and enjoy.
Drink plenty of water:
This is a crucial step for supporting your body's healing process and maintaining the benefits of your massage.
Massage stimulates the circulatory system which can dehydrate the body. It's important to rehydrate which will aid the elimination of toxins.
I recommend a glass of water as soon as your massage is complete, aim to drink 8 glasses a day to maintain gengood health.
Stay clear of coffee & alcohol:
Due to the dehydrating properties, drinking coffee after receiving a massage can leave you feeling groggy and fatigued.
Alcohol may not be processed effectively after receiving a massage, this could lead to tissue and organ damage.
Both carry countereffects and are best avoided for 24hrs post treatment.
Book in for your next massage:
Regular massage sessions are essential for maintaining our overall wellbeing. There is not set amount of massages which you can receive, as this depends on your specific needs. Is your session for a treat, or a treatment?
Relaxation - 1-2 a month.
Pain Relief - 1 a week for a few weeks, until the pain improve. Then reduce the frequency to 1-2 a month.
Athletic Performance - 2 a month in order to aid muscle repair. Serious athletes should book on 1 a week.
Avoid the shower / Bath directly after your treatment:
To gain maximum benefits, allow 6 -12hrs for the essential oils to soak in and penetrate the skin.
Avoid sunbeds and exposure to strong sun light:
Due to the use of essential oils, avoid any sunbed treatments for 48hrs.
Due to the use of essential oils, avoid strong direct sunlight for 24hrs.
Choose a light snack:
Massage stimulates the digestive system, so it's normal to feel hungry post-treatment. Opt for lighter food for a couple of hours, as any large/ heavy meals will leave you feeling bloated and lethargic.
